About Gig Harbor
History:
Captain Charles Wilkes, commander of the American Exploration Expedition of 1838-1842, named Gig Harbor. Wilkes' crew was charting the area from a gig (a small boat) when they sought shelter here during a storm. The crew began calling the area "Gig Harbor."

Location:
Nestled at the south end of Puget Sound, across the Narrows Bridges from Tacoma, Gig Harbor, with its beautiful wooded and waterfront settings, embodies Northwest living. Gig Harbor is 45-minutes from Sea-Tac International Airport and an hour from downtown Seattle. The city of Tacoma is a few minutes across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, two of the longest suspension bridges in the world.
